Support free-market style health care reform
To: Rep. Charles Gonzalez
September 17, 2009
I would like healthcare reformed in such a way that transparency and the free-market is allowed to increase competition and bring price awareness to the consumer. If the healthcare consumer can make decisions based on available price, quality, and service ratings, then providers will be forced to compete.
The current system leaves the healthcare consumer detached from prices and with limited choices due to restrictions from their insurance plan.
If all consumers must pay a percentage of normal costs out of their own pocket, they will compare how much providers charge for equal services. They would even have the power to negotiate prices on their own behalf, thus cutting costs throught the system.
Then there are those who are going through tough times. We should lend a hand to those less fortunate and provide them with temporary insurance premium assistance and aggressively encourage/train them to get back on their feet.
There are also those that never get back on their feet and are permanently dependent on the system. Aggressive encouragement and training must teach them to be self sufficient. They cannot be allowed to constantly recieve assistance. Laziness should never be rewarded. It is not fair to those who work for a living.
Illegal aliens are here illegally and should pay for their own services if they need them. Illegal aliens should be deported. Any non-citizen who does not pay taxes or contribute to the system should pay for their own services if they need them.
Just like driving, government assistance programs including health insurance are a privelege, not a right. Sufficient proof of citizenship/identification and need must be provided when applying for and recieving such assistance.
I welcome your criticism of the ideas I have proposed.
