Hello, My name is Celina Medina. I am a 37 YOUNG woman suffering from Renal End Stage Disease. I am also a single mother of two beautiful little girls.
I am writing to you today to express my distress on our healthcare. I cried the day our President made his speech about healthcare. Everything he talked about was if he was talking about my life. I have worked all of my life since the day I turned 15. I know in life nothing is free and only hard work has made me who I am today, my parents taught me this too.I had gotten a beautiful gift from my little brother, his kidney. After my transplant, I was able to continue to work thus able to pay for all my medications, which lets just say it comes out to the same as one mortgage payment. I lost my transplant this December and was placed back on dialysis. When my insurance canceled because I had to stop working. I had to decide whether to pay for rent and food for my babies or my medications. There was no hesitation as to what I had to do. So here I am now, unable to work. Waiting again for a miracle of a kidney and hoping to stay a live to rise my daughters and not leave them alone in this world.
What I am asking is not a hand out but a solution to put me and others like me back on our feet. So that I can be a sole supporter for my daughters. By the way, I am not receiving any welfare or subsidize money. I don't want this to come out as another person looking for a handout. I want to work and provide for my family as I have always done.
Please consider the changes that you can make with your decisions.
Thank you for your time and your understanding. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions for me. I would love to share my story to who ever would like to hear it.
