No New Financial Agencies

Rep. Jerry Lewis

September 15, 2009

The administration should not pursue any new agencies at this point. New agencies mean new appointees and new multi-million dollar budgets. The american people can ill-afford another costly program run by an inefficient government. When is the administration going to stop spending taxpayer money, and down size this big monster of a government.

There are already government agencies in place to regulate the financial community. Creating another costly buerocracy is a mistake, especially in this case. Credit and mortgage matters are a personal responsibility, but this administration has made the banks the bad guys. Hey, here's a novel idea, why don't we look at the people who signed the contract for those mortgages. The people who guaranteed that they would pay their bills, and live up to their responsibilities. This is not a government problem, it's a socitettal problem. My parents worked hard and struggled for much of their lives, but they always paid their bills. We drove used cars, lived in small houses and wore our clothes until they wore out or we out grew them, at which point we handed them down to younger siblings. We did not see ourselves as deprived, or poor, we were just normal people. When my father died, he was most proud of the fact that he took care of his family. He never asked for hand outs and he never blamed anyone for his financial woes.

I fear my fathers America is gone, replaced by one that is incapable of accepting responsibility for personal actions. This new America seems to be hurling head long in to a "Social State" where the government takes responibility for the incapable masses. A citizenry that blames industry, government or others for their own short-comings. A place where those who work hard, and take care of their own, deserve no more than the person who over extends himself and lives beyond his own means.

Along with this move to Socialism, Pres, Obama needs to issue a formal apology to my parents, and their parents, for failing to uphold the values that they attempted to teach us. Sorry Dad, I'm doing just as you taught me, but too many from my generation would rather let the government do what they won't. Those same people have now elected an administration that places NO value on personal responsibility and integrity. I pray for the future.
