I am in favor of developing a health care cooperative. I believe such a system could help our current system to do the things it does best and to improve those things it is having trouble delivering. I am a CRNA ( certified registered nurse anesthetist) I see the problems that the health care system has everyday. I believe that a co-op could solve many problems by offing care to all individuals in a given area while keeping cost manageable and providing high quality care. It is my understanding that a co-op would be able to reduce cost by offering group coverage and allowing communities to set that standard for coverage basics. This would allow lower cost insurance coverage that is run by communities not the federal government. I know this option does not sit well with the major insurance companies because it can offer care at reduced cost because the need for profit is not there so costs can be cut by as much as 15%. This saving could then be used to further make such programs self sufficient so that further government monies would not have to spent in maintaining the program. The program would maintain itself after the initial cash outlay. This is a sound financial way to get us back on track for affordable health care that all citizens can afford.
I hope that you strongly consider this option. Doing nothing is not an option as the current system will fail if nothing is done.
Thanks you for your time in considering this argument.
