Eshoo Introduces Loud Commercial Bill

California Representative Anna Eshoo has introduced a H.R. 6209, entitled "The Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act" (the CALM Act for short). The bill would require the FCC to "prescribe a standard to preclude commercials from being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material they accompany."

Eshoo has stated that people put up with commercials in return for free over-the-air programming, but many are annoyed when a commercial is suddenly at a much higher volume than what they were watching.

What do you think? Should Congress be involved in regulating the volume of television commercials?

YES, it's annoying and something needs to be done
NO, it's a small matter and Congress has better things to do
