Americans Driving Less

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced that Americans have done less and less driving in each of the past six months. The amount of miles driven was also estimated to be 1.8 billion less in April 2008 than in April 2007. Comparing November 2006-April 2007 traffic to November 2007-April 2008, the amount driven had declined by about 30 billion miles.

The increase in fuel prices is considered the most likely reason for this apparent change in driving habits. Carpooling, consolidation of errands into a single trip, and vacationing closer to home have been touted as examples of changed behavior.

Let Congress and the administration know how the the increase in fuel prices affected you.
